Storage Incentivisation

Storage incentivization mechanisms sit on top of Data Distribution protocols to incentivize individuals and organizations to store data on their machines. These mechanisms can take the form of decentralized applications that often reward storage providers with a native token.

Examples are:

  • Filecoin
  • Sia
  • Storj

Filecoin is an open-source, public, cryptocurrency and digital payment system intended to be a blockchain-based digital storage and data retrieval method.

Sia is a decentralized storage platform secured by blockchain technology. The Sia Storage Platform leverages underutilized hard drive capacity around the world to create a data storage marketplace that is more reliable and lower cost than traditional cloud storage providers.

Storj is a next-generation decentralized cloud storage network. By renting unused hard drive and bandwidth capacity around the globe, Storj is able to offer more affordable object storage without sacraficing on performance or reliability.
